Luke Goldsmith, maker and designer of fine jewellery since 1995, opened his boutique atelier in Canterbury, Kent in March 2011.

The ever-growing brand is known for beautiful, elegant jewellery with a difference. We offer inspiring collections, re-modelling, precious stones, bespoke and one-off creations, along with exquisite wedding and engagement rings.

A career that began in 1995 was the start of something special…

Beginnings

We could say it all started with an apprenticeship at a busy West-End workshop, where Luke learned all aspects of jewellery making from a Master Jeweller and then became workshop manager, but that would be fibbing. Really it started as a child, when Luke was hypnotised by art and the beauty of the natural world.

After thriving at school with Design Technology, Maths and Art, Luke pursued Graphic Design and Photography at college. He was interested in pursuing an Architecture degree when he was offered an apprenticeship to a jeweller. By chance, an opportunity arose where all the elements of design Luke had practiced came together. Today, Luke crafts his jewellery with mathematic precision, uses bold, architectural forms and his artist’s eye all at once.

Coloured Stones

Working for the Master Jeweller allowed Luke to hone his jewellery-making skills, which gave way to complete creative freedom with his original designs. Luke rediscovered his fascination for coloured stones he’d been in awe of when young and is one of the few talented jewellery designers today who is daring enough to play with both rich colours and unique shapes.

The Atelier

Luke’s career took off when working for a small jewellery company. After thirteen years of developing his techniques, Luke’s Canterbury atelier opened in March 2011 and began focusing on bespoke one-off pieces, along with commissions and the remodeling of existing jewellery.

Breaking The Boundaries

Today Luke’s specialty is making bespoke, one-off pieces. He is first and foremost an artist. For Luke, it is about making incredible, original pieces, breaking the boundaries of conventional design and being innovative. Each bespoke item can take months to make, as details are tweaked and the design is elevated with each turn it takes.

Wearing Art

While most art stands apart from us, accessible only through the eyes, Luke’s jewellery is a way of wearing art. Jewellery only comes alive when it is worn, when its weight rests against skin, when earrings sway with the tilt of the head and a necklace which rests near the heart reminds one of a place, person or experience. It is truly a luxury to own and wear handcrafted jewellery.

The Luke Goldsmith collections ranges from bold and adventurous to detailed and elegant, in gold, silver, platinum or palladium and sometimes a mix of metals, there are no boundaries...

From sketch book to the finished piece, skill, care and attention is our ethos. In every collection and every piece there is a journey. Ideas are collated using a mix of inspiration from nature to travel, designs are then sketched, drawings are finalised and painted and finally, the making process can begin.

We focus on one-off, bespoke designs, unique collections and remodelling of existing jewellery. Our fine jewellery one-off pieces are very unique and only made once to ensure pure exclusivity of that design.

Bespoke work is also very exclusive and are tailor-made personally to the wearer for uniqueness and satisfaction upon completion. Our collections are limited and made to the highest standard, using our unique signature designs. We can also remodel your old jewellery, bringing them back to life. They can  sometimes be changed into something completely different, from an old ring into sophisticated new earrings

The workshop is where it all happens and the ideas and sketches become reality, from making master patterns to polishing, setting, mounting, soldering, carving: all the way through to making a final one off piece, the workshop is the heart of the brand.

Every piece that leaves the workshop is handmade with the skills, care and attention that are required for such incredible items.

Thinking outside the box, exploring designs with no boundaries, letting our imagination run with the things everyone loves, from your favourite fairy tale story to periods within history, experiences or famous proverbs, these all have a place in jewellery. It is then that the sketches start and the daring designs begin.

The Money Spider ideas and collections were originally conceived in 2011 with the opening of the shop and the economic climate at the time. This inspired Luke to design and make a collection that was a sign of the times. There is an old English proverb: 'If you wish to live and thrive, let the spider run alive'. It is believed that when a 'Money Spider' lands on you, it has come to bring you good financial fortune. You will see that the stunning Money Spider collection includes hand-cut rock crystal webs with diamonds and even a gold money spider captured inside.

The Once upon a time collection began in 2011 when the sketch book was full of fantastic and exciting drawings with inspiration from 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and the 'Wizard of Oz'. These daring rings tell a story that the wearer knows and loves with the designs remaining beautifully flamboyant and mysterious. Using precious stones, the stories are hidden inside the rings with surrounding 'hints' of the tales for all to see...
